Thesis – Congenital Syphilis Education Animation

Syphilis can be transmitted to a fetus during pregnancy, resulting in adverse outcomes including fetal and infant death. Though congenital syphilis (CS) is preventable and treatable, rates are increasing rapidly.

This animation aims to improve awareness and understanding of syphilis and CS, provide details about prevention and treatment, reduce stigma, motivate healthcare seeking, and initiate conversations within at-risk communities. Developed with a Baltimore City Health Department initiative who conducted audience research, the animation uses role model characters to demonstrate healthcare seeking and open communication.
